I haven't done one of these in FOREVER and I'm chuffed to see journal question memes coming back into vogue, so here we go! You ask me a question and then I ask you a question and then back and forth it goes until one or both of us is all questioned out.

Currently playing just Ace and Cecy/J at Imeeji. But this is open to any character I've played in recent memory, because I love talking about my characters and mostly play OCs right now.

I think for a long while J's feelings about C were affectionate but also a bit surface-y. C's pranking grew on him and they mutually enjoy bullshitting, so that was nice. But I think they had A Moment during the secrets chamber live that was when their relationship started to deepen.

Dangerbear also helped with that. While J still feels a bit annoyed by C and A getting into a spite-off during the game, it's mostly overshadowed by his wrenching sense of guilt and self-loathing that he forced C's hand in attacking Wild City by being weak. That's how he thinks of it, anyway.

I think the aftermath of that and C suiciding + the fallout also led him to see C as a bit more vulnerable as well. C's is very good at projecting the air of "I am a trickster!!! Nothing can touch me!!!" and that lulled J into a false sense of feeling like he didn't have to worry about C so much. But the flip side of a deepening relationship with C is that J now feels more keenly worry about C's vulnerabilities.

This applies to AlcheME in general as well, but J wishes he could protect C better. However he is under no illusions about that being possible or about what a delicate weakling he is. All he can do is try to be a good brother and hopefully have fewer flipouts. 8(

First impressions me senpai!

She is very cute and he senses a kindred spirit in how quickly she took to swords. He's really hoping that when she gets memories back she'll be good and they can have fun learning to duel each other since they seem to have different styles.

His default reaction to Camellia was obviously super protective because she's his cute junior. But after her reaction to the tournament game, he doesn't get the sense that she's "soft" like Gold, so he doesn't necessarily feel the urge to uh. Coddle her. The way he does with Gold sometimes. But he's still feeling her out and getting a sense of who she is.

HMM. Complicated. Let's do this bullet point style.

1) He has not forgiven Yasuragi for Cardigan's death and never will. In a vacuum without consequences, he kill Yasuragi immediately. He'd settle for never having to see Yasuragi again, though. Ace's greatest preference would be to not have Yasuragi around ever again.

2) But, this is not a vacuum without consequences. So his hatred toward Yasuragi is weighed against the safety of his team, and in that regard not making unnecessary trouble for avante comes before his personal satisfaction. He mostly leaves politics to Cardigan but he's not stupid and right now the general outrage doesn't seem worth the satisfaction. Especially since Yasuragi can just come back from the dead. What is the point of killing someone if it doesn't stick?

3) The above also weighed against the fact that Yasuragi seems, as far as Ace can tell, content to take Cardigan at their word and additionally leave avante alone. So while he does not like or trust Yasuragi, and absolutely wishes him harm, he'll accept "Yasuragi leaves avante alone forever" as a consolation outcome.

4) He really enjoyed 2x Taisho/Zrael murder date combo in Dangerbear, though. Goddamn was that satisfying. Especially when they nabbed each other's hearts the second time. The one bright spot in that whole game. He hopes it was a bad time for both teams. Just the worst.

5) While Ace was reluctantly okay with letting things lie as in #3, Yasuragi showing up at the arm wrestle match has piqued his interest and some alarm alarm. It seems out of character for Yasuragi's interactions with Avante since Cardigangate. He is particularly interested by Yasuragi seeking him out. While he doesn't think Yasuragi is out to cause trouble, especially after all that business with fin/WC, he doesn't trust that Yasuragi's intentions are benevolent. That being the case, he'd like to attract and keep Yasuragi's attention and/or ire, if only because Yasuragi focusing on him or Cardigan means Yasuragi won't be focusing so much on the kids(TM). And that's what Ace is here to do, to be their shield.

1) He is morbidly curious about E's past because?? you're a bird??? But he recognizes this is horrible and is very stern about tamping down on it. E's stepdad is a dick.

2) He thinks of E as a steadying presence in the unit and J is very grateful for that. E just seems to have a good head on his shoulders in general.

3) But he feels guilty about that because it feels a bit like abdicating responsibility. After Dangerbear and his last memory he has a lot of guilt about being the sensitive one. With E in particular he feels like he's shunting responsibility onto the shoulders of someone younger, when he is (nominally at least) one of the team adults. That's not a thought that really makes sense with AlcheME's lack of hierarchy but there it is.

4) He would like to be closer to E but E also seems the most like he knows where his towel is and J just feels like a hot mess and it gives him a weird complex. E seems so chill about how awful his life is? Whereas J just, falls apart.

1) B! The smallest brother!!! He can't help but think of B as "the youngest" even though that doesn't really make sense in terms of time awake or in terms of actual chronological age. W. Whatever.

2) What would really like to do is give B space to mess around and be a kid while also respecting that he has been through some Heavy Shit and will probably continue to go through heavy shit and bear responsibilities no kid should have to.

3) That being said J is pretty... dubious? On how well he can do that. Because he is plagued with self-doubt over being The Delicate One. So he fusses when B does things like play with his hair but also would not stop him. Let B have fun. 8(

4) He wishes he could do more to support B but he's not strong and he doesn't have experience so he tries to just be like, a supportive presence. Since he can't keep B safe he just wants to be a good brother who is there to help B cope with bad things.

5) Tell him about your boyfriend so he can delight in gossip and tease you!1 Alternately ask J to help B dress up for a date he will be so happy.
